Aardvark Certification Appointed as Certification Body for Sustainable Racing Fuels Assurance Scheme (SRFAS)

We are delighted to announce that Aardvark Certification has been formally appointed as a Certification Body for the Sustainable Racing Fuels Assurance Scheme (SRFAS) — a landmark programme promoting sustainability and low-carbon innovation within global motorsport – starting with the 2026 F1 season.

This appointment recognises our expertise in assurance services and sustainability compliance, and positions Aardvark Certification at the forefront of verifying sustainable fuel solutions that meet rigorous international standards.

What is the Sustainable Racing Fuels Assurance Scheme?

The Sustainable Racing Fuels Assurance Scheme (SRFAS) is an independent, third-party verification framework developed by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) in partnership with the Zemo Partnership. Its purpose is to ensure that fuels used in motor sport — including the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2026 onwards — are genuinely sustainable and meet stringent environmental criteria.

Under SRFAS, fuels are evaluated based on:

  • Chain of Custody Verification — tracing the origin and movement of Advanced Sustainable Components (ASCs) throughout the supply chain;

  • Fuel Composition Analysis — confirming the blended fuel composition adheres to sustainability requirements; and

  • Emissions Performance Evaluation — verifying greenhouse gas emissions performance meets defined thresholds.

These criteria ensure that only fuels with demonstrable sustainability credentials — such as those derived from non-food biomass, renewable feedstocks, or municipal waste sources — are certified under the scheme.

Why This Matters

The transition to sustainable fuels is a pivotal step in decarbonising motorsport and catalysing broader shifts across transport energy systems. By embedding SRFAS verification into fuel supply chains, the programme provides confidence to racing teams, fuel producers, and stakeholders that sustainability claims are credible and transparent.

Moreover, high-profile implementation of 100% sustainable fuels in series like Formula 1 from 2026 serves as both a technological showcase and a practical demonstration of how low-carbon fuel solutions can be scaled beyond the track.

Aardvark Certification’s Role

As an appointed Certification Body for SRFAS, Aardvark Certification will:

  • Conduct independent assessments and audits in accordance with SRFAS requirements;

  • Issue verification reports demonstrating compliance with scheme standards; and

  • Support clients in navigating SRFAS processes with clarity, rigour, and integrity.

Our team’s deep understanding of assurance frameworks and sustainability verification positions us as a trusted partner for organisations working to advance sustainable fuels in motorsport and beyond.

Looking Ahead

This appointment reflects Aardvark Certification’s commitment to supporting decarbonisation initiatives across industries and underscores our capabilities in delivering high-quality, impartial certification services.

As the 2026 F1 season kicks off - it has been exciting to be collaborating with fuel suppliers, teams, and industry stakeholders to enable credible adoption of sustainable racing fuels that align with environmental goals and competitive performance expectations.
